PEÑISCOLA    SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2008
We'll visit Peñíscola which is an historical walled-in-city, built on a rock that juts out into the sea. We’ll spend the day at the beach where we’ll eat lunch, then we’ll visit the castle which once belonged to the religious order of the Templar Knights. This castle was the Holy See of "Papa Luna" (Benedicto XIII, the anti-Pope of his time) during the Western Schism.
We will be back in the city between 7:30 – 8 p.m.

No charge for this trip except for personal expenses.
Have your family pack you a lunch. Wear comfortable shoes.

We’ll meet at 11:00 a.m. at Avenida de Aragón, Mestalla (Soccer stadium).

TERUEL - ALBARRACÍN    OCTOBER 3, 2008
This is a great trip if you’re taking Islamic Iberia, Spanish Culture and Civ., or art class. Come see for yourself and learn the history of Arabic influence in art and architecture in our own back yard in the neighboring province of Teruel, located northwest of Valencia. This trip will introduce you to two of the province’s most important cities: Teruel and Albarracín.

Albarracín: this whole town of Arabic origins has been declared a National Monument. In addition to the beauty of its unique architecture, you’ll get to see the surrounding wooded areas. We’ll do some hiking on this trip to take in actual prehistoric cave paintings.

Teruel, is the capital of the province and the capital of Mudéjar art.

Price: 25 €
Included in the price: transportation by chartered bus; guide.

Minimum: 25 participants.

If you’re interested, sign up by paying by 2p.m., Friday, September 26th. Study Center hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:45a.m.-7p.m.; Friday class days, 8:45a.m.-7p.m.; Friday reading days, 8:45a.m.-2p.m.

Trip payment will be accepted only up until that time. Cash only. No refunds will be made after 2p.m., September 26.

We’ll meet at 9a.m. on Avenida de Aragón, Estadio de futbol Mestalla. We’ll be back in Valencia around 7p.m.

Take your lunch from home, and hiking shoes.

CALPE    OCTOBER 18, 2008
We'll take in the town and its sights. In the evening we'll get to see the beautiful and spectacular parade of the "Moors and Christians". All showing off their fabulous costumes and impressive floats. Hundreds of townsfolk and musicians come every year to participate in it.
We'll be back in Valencia about 12 midnight.

If you're interested in going, sign up on the bulletin board before 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 8.
Study Center hours: Monday through Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 7 p.m and Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
No student can stay on in Calpe. If you travel with us, you must return on Program buses. This rule is irrevocable.
Take your lunch and supper along with you (at least 2 "bocadillos" for the whole day).

XÀTIVA    NOVEMBER 22, 2008
We'll visit the town with its artistic and historical content. Xàtiva was settled during Iberian times, although its heyday was during the Middle Ages. The city is also renowned for being the birthplace of the Borgia popes (Calixtus III and Alexander VI)), and painter José de Ribera, "El Españoleto". We'll take in the castle, dating from Iberian times up to the 19thC.

We'll be back in Valencia about 6:00 p.m.
